Chandy to provide assistance to student’s family

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has said he will give financial assistance with public cooperation to the family of Aswathy who allegedly committed suicide on failing to get admission for Plus One through the single-window system. Mr. Chandy said in a letter to Education Minister M.A. Baby on Tuesday that the government had not responded to his request to help the family at Thrisslery in Wayanad.

He alleged that the student was a victim of the unscientific admission system and the government had the moral responsibility to help the family in distress. The officials deputed to probe the incident had not visited her house or gathered evidence from her family members. They had only taken the statement of the officials who had been accused of the lapses. No Minister had visited her house so far, he said.
