Sanjeev Nanda NEW DELHI: Sanjeev Nanda, grandson of the former Naval Chief S.M. Nanda, was convicted by a court here on Tuesday of mowing down six persons, including three policemen, in the nine-year-old BMW hit-and-run case. Pronouncing the judgment in a packed Patiala House courtroom, Additional District and Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar said: “Sanjeev Nanda, I hold you guilty under Section 304 (2) of the Indian Penal Code.” Thirty-year-old Sanjeev could face a maximum prison term of 10 years or fine or both under the Section. The quantum of sentence would be pronounced on Wednesday. The court also convicted businessman Rajeev Gupta and his two servants Shyam Singh and Bhola Nath under Section 201 (2) of the IPC of destruction of material evidence. Sanjeev parked his BMW car in the house of his friend Sidharth Gupta at 50 Golf Links here, soon after the accident, and Sidharth’s father Rajeev Gupta, along with his employees Shyam Singh and Bhola Nath, washed the blood stains from the vehicle. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
