Impressive numbers

The University of Madras has 68 academic Departments with nearly 3,000 students pursuing post graduation, 1,200 students pursuing the Master of Philosophy programme and about 4,600 candidates pursuing their PhD. The faculty includes about 285 teachers.

As many as 140 colleges are affiliated to the University of Madras. About 75,000 study in these colleges. The University’s Institute of Distance Education has over two lakh students pursuing various courses.

About 50 research institutes are affiliated to the university, where nearly 2000 students are currently pursuing their PhD.
