Science block opened at school

CHENNAI: The science block of Mary Clubwala Jadhav Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Egmore, constructed with funds from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, was inaugurated on Thursday by Madras Central MP Dayanidhi Maran.

It was constructed at the cost of Rs.17.9 lakh. Mr. Maran also inaugurated an expanded library block in the name of Mrs. Sumithra Janardhanan, constructed at the cost of Rs.7 lakh at the school, which is being run by the guild of Service (Central).

Mr.Maran, who promised more funds for the school’s projects, said that under the MPLADS, he had given Rs.2.5 crore to the polytechnic institute in Otteri and Rs.6 crore for the expansion work of the Loco Bridge work in Perambur. He also gave away prizes to students, who had excelled in academics, sports and other activities.

The school, which was established in 1968, caters to the economically weaker sections of society. Guild of Service (Central) Chairman Jayalakshmi Narayanaswami and honorary secretary Gita Viswanathan, school president G.Sundaram and vice-president K.N.George and headmistress Ranganayaki participated in the function.
