KSSC elections on November 20

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Elections for the new Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) vice-president and the five-member standing committee will be held here on November 20, according to the revised schedule published by the KSSC.

Giving details of the schedule, the KSSC president, T.P. Dasan told The Hindu here on Friday that this would be preceded by the elections to the all the 14 District Sports Councils in the State. These elections would be held on October 31.

The election process will be set rolling on September 9, with the publication of the final voters list for both the KSSC and DSC elections. This will be followed by the filling of nominations for the posts reserved for elected representatives of the Panchayati-Raj institutions from September 18 to 22. The scrutiny of these nominations will take on September 23 followed by withdrawal of nominations and publication of the candidates list on September 24. On September 29, the postal ballot for the enlisted voters to elect the representatives from the Panchayati-Raj institutions will be mailed from the KSSC and these would be returnable before 3 p.m. on October 14. The counting and publication of the results will be held in Thiruvananthapuram the same day.

The formation of the various DSCs will be formally announced on October 15 along with the issuance of the election notice to the posts in which the elections are to be held in the district bodies.

The posts to which elections will be conducted in the DSCs are: president, vice-president, a six-member executive committee and a representative to the KSSC. The secretaries to each of the DSCs are to be nominated by the KSSC in consultation with the Government.

Subsequently, the formation of the KSSC will be announced on November 1, leading to the general meeting of the KSSC and elections to the post of one vice-president and a five-member standing committee on November 20. The president of the new KSSC is to be nominated by the Government from among the members of the KSSC, according the Kerala Sports Act 2000.

Mr. Dasan will be seeking election as representative of the Kozhikode DSC to the KSSC and is certain to be re-nominated as the KSSC president for a fresh three-year term prior to November 20.
