Separatist leaders under house arrest

SRINAGAR: Top separatist leaders — Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik and Syed Ali Shah Geelani — were placed under house arrest on Friday to prevent them from taking part in demonstrations after the Friday prayers.

The Hurriyat Conference-sponsored Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee (JKCC) had called for peaceful sit-in demonstrations after the Friday prayers in Srinagar and other major towns of the Kashmir Valley to press for the “right to self-determination for Kashmir.”
