Court orders second post-mortem

MADURAI: The Madras High Court on Thursday ordered the Kanyakumari Collector and the Superintendent of Police to conduct a second post mortem on the corpse of a Siddha medical practitioner who allegedly died in police custody on August 25.

Passing interim orders in a writ petition filed by the elder brother of the deceased, Justice K. Chandru directed the Dean of Asaripallam Medical College Hospital to constitute a three-member panel drawn from three disciplines to perform the autopsy.

The post mortem should specifically include both internal and external injuries suffered by the deceased and the report must contain the injuries sustained during post as well as ante-mortem, the Judge said.

The process should also be videographed and final verdict of the panel that shall conduct the post mortem along with its report and the original videograph should be kept in a sealed cover until further orders.

A copy of the report shall be given to the petitioner.
