GHMC offers to apologise to SCR

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The GHMC has offered to apologise to the South Central Railway (SCR) for demolishing the compound walls of various railway buildings on the St. Ann’s school-Tarnaka route and also to withdraw the land acquisition notice served on the Railways for taking up road widening programme.

The offer was made before a division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Anil R. Dave and Justice R. Subash Reddy on Friday, when it expressed deep concern over the impasse between the two government institutions over the road widening process.

Both sides had agreed to a settlement in terms of memos filed before the court.

Both the parties met the Bench in the chambers of the Chief Justice.

The SCR has said that the land sought by the GHMC for road widening would be handed over and the proposals placed before the Railway Board for ratification before September 15.

Compensation

The bench said it would constitute a committee headed by a former High Court Judge to be assisted by a civil engineer and a mechanical engineer to decide on the compensation to be paid to the SCR and other issues.

The GHMC had demolished the compound walls of Railway properties in Secunderabad and this led to deployment of the Railway Protection Force along the road.
