Permit cancelled

MADURAI: Collector S. S. Jawahar has cancelled the permit of a goods carrier for smuggling kerosene meant for the public distribution system. According to an official press release, The vehicle owner’s contention that he was not aware of his vehicle being used for smuggling was rejected. The Collector, in his capacity as Madurai (South) Regional Transport Officer, cancelled the vehicle’s permit with effect from August 28.

He observed that it was the permit holder’s basic responsibility to ensure that his vehicle was not used to commit crime against the society.
