NIZAMABAD: Congress rank and file, Youth Congress and NSUI workers, well-wishers, friends and associates of Pradesh Congress Committee chief Dharmapuri Srinivas are planning to celebrate his 60th birthday (Shashti poorthi) in a big way in the town from September 23 to 25. Conduct of sports, health and blood donation camps, distribution of utensils and sarees to the poor families, annadanam, felicitation to freedom fighters, best farmers, sweepers, scavengers and installation of statues of great leaders will mark the celebrations. On the occasion the Mayor D. Sanjay on his behalf will arrange 200 community taps and the Rotary Club International (Rajiv Puri) will drill borewells wherever they are required in the town. Statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi will be unveiled at important spots. Though Swami Vivekananda’s statue has also been proposed to be installed, the organisers as of now are not sure of it as it is not yet ready. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherji and Union Home Minister Sivaraj Patil are likely to participate in the inaugural function, while Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy will attend the valedictory of the celebrations. Dr. Reddy is scheduled to unveil the statue of Rajiv Gandhi, distribute prizes to winners and runners-up in sports meet, felicitate SSC and Intermediate toppers, national and international sport personalities from the district and the best NCC Cadets. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
