Double for PSG Polytechnic

Coimbatore: Host PSG Polytechnic College clinched both the table tennis and badminton titles in the Coimbatore Division Inter-Polytechnic Athletic Association tournaments for boys at its premises here on Saturday.

The host notched up a 3-1 win over Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Polytechnic for the table tennis title, and followed it up with a 2-1 win over Nachimuthu Polytechnic in badminton.

Cycling meet

To commemorate former Chief Minister Annadurai’s birth centenary celebration, the Coimbatore wing of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu will conduct a cycling meet for the under-13, 15 and 17 age group schoolboys and girls on September 13. The meet will be flagged off near the Kannarpalayam GHSS at 7 a.m.

City scores 320

At Tirunelveli, City was bowled out for 320 in its first innings on the second day of the three-day City-Combined Districts (under-19) cricket match for the R.T. Parthasarathy Trophy on Saturday.

The scores: City 320 in 118 overs (Srivatsan 91, Kamalesh 87, Giripaul 54, Mohammed three for 55, Hariprasad three for 79, Kiranprasad three for 49) vs. Coimbined Districts 93 for three in 41 overs (Venkatvasan 31).

Finalists spotted

At Tiruchi, VLB Janakiammal CET and Sethu Engineering College entered the final of the Anna University inter-Zone cricket tournament, organised by PABCET, on Saturday.

The scores: Semifinals: Saranathan EC 105 in 28.1 overs lost to VLB Janakiammal CET 106 for seven in 29 overs (Arun Antony 33, Ashwin three for 19, Arun three for 24); Sethu EC 148 in 30 overs (Bagiyaraj 44, Sriram Sridharan three for 28, Vijayagovind three for 30) bt SSN CE 125 in 27.5 overs (Mahesh three for 20).
