KOLKATA: Holder Indian Army began strongly with both its teams winning respective first round matches comfortably, in the opening day of the all-India and South Asia Rugby here on Saturday. In a pool B match Army-B blanked traditionally strong Bombay gymkhana 41-10 to book a berth in the quarterfinals. Army-A, one of the two seeded sides, did not produce a big score but had little problem in beating local challenger Armenian Sports Club 22-7 in a pool A match. In the third match of the day, Bangalore scrapped past Tamil Nadu Police 26-20 to decide the pool B quarterfinal line-up, where it would be taking on Army-B. — Principal Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
