EDFA, Maharaja’s to bring back the old stars

KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Football Association and the Maharaja’s College here have jointly arranged an exhibition football match to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Kerala’s maiden Santosh Trophy triumph.

The match, at the Maharaja’s on Sunday evening, will see the Maharaja’s College team take on an Ernakulam veterans’ side comprising many players of the 1973 Kerala team, based in Ernakulam.

“Sixteen members of the 1973 team are from Ernakulam. Apart from them, the side will also have players of Ernakulam who were in Santosh Trophy-winning Kerala teams after that,” said the EDFA Secretary C.C. Jacob, a former international. A few players who are now coaches and referees will also be seen in action.

The Ernakulam District Coaches Association and Kochi City Veterans Football Association, both formed recently, will be inaugurated before the match, with Olympians O. Chandrasekharan and Simon Sunderraj, also the coach of the 1973 Kerala team, doing the honours.
