Free dental camps held

Tiruvannamalai: Rotary Club of Tiruvannamalai and Vivekananda Dental College for women, Tiruchengodu, conducted free dental camps in eight schools in and around Tiruvannamalai in last few days.

The series ended with a camp here on Sunday. President of the Rotary Club D.Palani said that around 3,000 students of schools including Tiruvannamalai Municipal Girls School, Shanmuga Industries School, Government Higher Secondary Schools at Thandarampattu, Kannakkurikkai, Hebran School, Manjampoondi, etc., were screened. Over 500 people benefited from the camp meant for the public.

M. Dharanidharan, lecturer, Vivekananda Dental College, said cavity and calculus (deposits on teeth) were common among the students. “In the cases where cavities were in initial stages, we recommended permanent filling . If cavities were in advanced stage, we did temporary filling at the camp itself,” he said.
