VLB Janakiammal CET defeats Sethu Institute, bags title

TIRUCHI: VLB Janakiammal CET defeated Sethu Institute of Technology by one wicket to win the title at the Anna University inter-zone cricket tournament, organised by PABCET, here on Sunday.

The scores:

Final: Sethu Institute of Technology 106 in 25 overs (S. Arun three for 22) lost to VLB Janakiammal CET 107 for nine in 24.2 overs.

Third place: SSN CE 102 for nine in 20 overs (Sriram Sreedharan 40, Krishnakumar three for 14) bt Saranathan EC 85 in 19.2 overs.

Combined teams:

Final: Zone-7 75 in 18 overs (Lakshminarayanan three for 25) lost to Zone-3 76 for four in 14 overs.

Third place: Zone-9 143 for eight in 20 overs (M. Baskarasethupathy 81) bt Zone-4 141 for eight in 20 overs (Gautam 35).

SIT posts win

Seshasayee Institute of Technology (SIT) defeated Young Challengers FC 3-1 in a Tiruchi DFA third division football league encounter on Sunday.

Rakesh, Dinesh and Muthukumar scored for the winner, while Tirupathy netted for Young Challengers.

City wins

City defeated Combined Districts by virtue of its first innings lead in the three-day City-Combined Districts (under-19) cricket match for the R.T. Parthasarathy Trophy here on Sunday.
