Houses sought at Disney Land

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The ‘Vijayawada Nagara Rajiv Gruhakalpa Baadhitula Committee’ has demanded that the State government allot houses that are nearing completion at Disney Land to the beneficiaries selected under Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme in 2005.

The committee at a meeting on Sunday wanted the Government to bear the escalation in the cost of construction. “We paid the initial amounts even by selling our ‘Mangalasutras’. As we are not in a position to bear the escalation in the cost of construction, the government should allot the houses at the rates announced in 2005,” said G. Chandra, one of the beneficiaries.

Expressing a similar view, Ch. Ramadevi, another beneficiary, said: “The Government has utterly failed to construct the houses in the stipulated time. We will not vote for the ruling party in the next elections if the Government does not allot houses to us at Disney Land.”

Mr. Naidu said that the Government had identified more than 1,500 beneficiaries in the city. Committee conveners R.V. Chinna Babu and M. Srinivas and others spoke.
