Archer Jignas VIJAYAWADA: It was a moment of joy for the administrators of the Krishna District Archery Association (KDAA), as their ward Ch. Jignas has been selected to represent India in the 4th World Sub-Junior Archery Championship to be held at Antalya in Turkey from October 3 to 10. Jignas, a Class X student of Gowtham Public School, exhibited extraordinary skills at the two selection meets held at Jamshedpur and Kolkata to earn his berth in the Indian squad. “He stood first in the double FITA segment at Jamshedpur trials and at Kolkata garnered 2,745 points out of 2,800 to set a new record,” said KDAA president Ch. Satyanarayana, on Sunday. Incidentally, Jignas is the current sub-junior national champion and is ranked third in the junior segment. “In the seniors, he occupies 12th place and has been selected for the Indian camp for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held at New Delhi,” Mr. Satyanarayana said. Jignas evinced interest in archery in 2002 and since then been undergoing training with international archer Ch. Lenin. “Jignas is basically a recurve archer. But as he is of a short stature, we have decided to shift him to compound segment. As the compound segment has been included in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, there is a bright chance of Jignas winning a medal,” said association secretary Adinaranayana.
