Special Correspondent

KADAPA: Former president of District Citizens Forum R. Mallikarjuna Reddy on Sunday urged D. Jitendra Das, Superintending Archaeologist of Archaeological Survey of India, to undertake repairs to some damaged structures in the 400-year-old Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple at Vontimitta.

On the forum’s representations, the Central Archaeological Department spent Rs. 50 lakh for repairs, he said and sought grant of additional funds for some remaining works.

The damaged figurines and ornamental designs on the main ‘gopuram’ should be repaired, he said in a representation.

Mr. Jitendra Das sought installation of ‘kalasams’ atop the eastern ‘gopuram’ and restoration of damaged portions on the northern and southern ‘gopurams’. Sri Rama Kutiram and Sri Anjaneyaswamy temple were badly damaged, he said.
