Possibilities OF INTERNET: Librarian of Pondicherry University R. Samyuktha delivering a talk on the occasion of World Literacy Day in Puducherry on Monday. PUDUCHERRY: As part of the World Literacy Day celebrations, the Centre for Women’s Studies of Pondicherry University conducted a talk on Internet literacy on Monday. According to a release, Librarian of the University R. Samyuktha spoke on Internet literacy as a tool for accessing digital libraries. In her talk, she stressed the increasing importance of virtual learning environment and also pointed out the challenges facing the students and scholars. Internet literacyIn the information era, literacy was the ability to locate, evaluate and use information and to become independent, she said and added that literacy was a tool to empower and transform. Ms. Samyuktha went on to explain the need and necessity for developing computer literacy, competence in library and information sciences in a world full of challenges and opportunities. Coordinator of the Centre for Women’s Studies V.T. Usha spoke on the importance of literacy as a first step towards women’s empowerment.
