Notice on denial of school admission

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Delhi Government on six petitions filed by minor students through their parents belonging to weaker sections of society seeking directions for their admission to different classes in government schools here.

The students moved the Court following denial of admission to them by the school authorities in Seemapuri and Jehangirpuri on one ground or the other.

The petitioners through their counsel Ashok Aggarwal submitted that they had also approached the Deputy Director of Education for directions to the schools for giving them admission. Though the Deputy Director’s office wrote to these schools to grant admission to the petitioners in their desired classes, the school authorities failed to comply with the directions, the petitioners submitted.

Mr. Aggarwal submitted that the denial of admission to these poor students was violation of their basic right to education.

Taking the petition on record, Justice Vipin Sanghi directed the Government to file replies to the petitions by September 19. Mr. Aggarwal has filed three more such petitions in the High Court in the past one month.
