Marked improvement in Bihar flood situation

Patna: The flood situation in Bihar saw a marked improvement on Tuesday following decrease in discharge of water from Barahkshetra in Nepal in the Kosi river.

According to officials in the Water Resources Department, the discharge came down to 74,000 cusecs at noon from 76,400 cusecs at the same time on Monday.

The water level in the flood-hit areas of Supaul, Madhepura, Saharsa, Araria and Purnia districts came down significantly.

However, 29.57 lakh people were still reeling under the impact of the deluge in these five districts alone, disaster management department Additional Commissioner Pratyay Amrit said. — PTI
