BJP to firm up poll strategy in Bangalore

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has planned to finalise its strategy for the Assembly elections, scheduled for this year-end, and the subsequent Lok Sabha poll, at its national executive meeting in Bangalore this week-end.

Nearly 200 delegates, including special invitees will meet in Bangalore for three days from September 12.

Party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Tuesday that the programme of creating worker committees at the level of polling booths throughout the country was almost over. Some 8,00,000 booths had been covered by committees comprising 48 lakh party workers.

“We will finalise an aggressive electoral strategy to expose the United Progressive Alliance government’s non-performance,” Mr. Naqvi said. Besides, there would be a discussion on poll issues for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

While national issue such as price rise, corruption, terrorism and the nuclear deal would figure in the Assembly polls, local issues would be identified and added to the campaign in each State, Mr. Naqvi said.

The three-day meet will open with an address by party president Rajnath Singh’s address that will flag the issues to be raised during campaign. The closing address will be delivered by the party’s prime ministerial candidate, L.K. Advani. A public rally has been planned for September 13 in Bangalore as part of a series of 150 “vijay sankalp” rallies. It will be addressed by both Mr. Advani and Mr. Rajnath Singh.

A statement on the nuclear deal is likely to be adopted at the executive committee meeting, which will mainly focus on terrorism and political and economic issues.
