No waiver for Pakistan

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: U.S. ambassador to India David Mulford ruled out an NSG waiver for Pakistan. Asked to comment on reports that China was seeking such a waiver for Islamabad, he said: “I don’t think there is. No possibility.”

On China’s stand at the NSG, Mr. Mulford said “in the end,” it did the “right thing.”

He declined to speculate on whether the U.S. Congress would approve the deal during its ongoing session, the last before the Presidential polls.

“The Congress is going to move at its own pace and make its own decisions. Until they do that we’re going to be respectfully waiting to see what their approach is, but there will be dialogue at senior levels in the administration with senior leadership in the Congress. It’s already started,” he said.
