BJP protests against Central, State policies

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A large number of Bharatiya Janata Party workers led by Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan held a demonstration near the Assembly on the first day of its session on Wednesday to protest against the alleged failure of the Government in all fronts. The protesters violated the prohibitory orders and courted arrest when police prevented them from proceeding to the Assembly.

Addressing the protesters, Prof. Malhotra charged that the United Progressive Alliance Government was misleading the people. As for the nuclear deal, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had mortgaged the sovereignty of India and now there was a big question mark on the security of the country. Also, he said, the UPA Government had failed completely on the economic front and people were faced with high prices of almost all commodities.

In Delhi, Prof. Malhotra said, people would dislodge the Congress Government as not only had it failed to keep its various promises, it had even cheated the farmers in the name of compensation. He promised that the BJP would pay compensation to all farmers for their land at increased rates.

Dr. Vardhan said people were suffering due to the 10 years of misrule by the Congress in Delhi. “Over 65 per cent people are not getting drinking water, bungling in power privatisation has taken place and the power tariff has been increased three times in the past six year.” The BJP leader said Delhi Government had squandered away Rs.1,800 crores in the name of cleaning the Yamuna.
