HYDERABAD: Nellore Mayor Sailaja Reddy has resigned from the Congress and joined film star Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam (PR) on Wednesday. The Mayor had been at loggerheads with Anam brothers – Information Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and his brother and Congress MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy. She has been keeping off the party activities for some time now before finally calling it quits on Wednesday. Welcoming her to the party fold, Mr. Chiranjeevi said her entry into Praja Rajyam vindicated the importance that the party was according to women. Maharashtra cadre IAS officer and a native of Guntur district T. Chandrasekhar joined the Praja Rajyam this morning. Dr. Chandrasekhar, a 1987 batch officer, worked various positions in Maharashtra and was a recipient of several awards including the Prime Minister’s medal for the best civil servant. Several leaders of the TDP from Nellore, Guntur, Kadapa and other districts including former MLA K. Yalamanda Rao joined the Praja Rajyam on Wednesday. Bhuma Nagi Reddy and Shobha Nagi Reddy who quit the TDP and joined PR criticised the leaders of other parties, the TDP in particular, for indulging in mud-slinging on Praja Rajyam. TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu ensured ‘removal’ party founder N.T. Rama Rao’s portraits from the government offices and maintained a distance with NTR’s kin. He was now joining hands with them to stop the rampant migration from the party. “The leaders who never questioned Mr. Naidu’s actions have no moral right to speak about Mr. Chiranjeevi,” Mr. Nagi Reddy said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
