Ensure adequate electricity to farmers: Raje

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje visited the Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Project on Tuesday and called upon the plant’s officials to supply adequate electricity to farmers during the rabi crop season.

Ms. Raje was accompanied by the Chairman and Managing Director, Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, S.K. Kalla. The project officials said all the units were operating to their full capacity and the plant had produced electricity to 93 per cent of its capacity during the past two years.

An official release stated here that Ms. Raje reviewed the progress of construction of the project’s sixth unit and expressed the hope that it would be completed in the stipulated timeframe.

The release said as many as five units of the total capacity of 1,070 MW in different power projects in the State were presently being constructed, but they would not be able to start power generation before December this year in view of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) not supplying the equipment in time.
