NEW DELHI: Thirty-two clubs from 20 cities, including two-time champion Noida Golf Club, form the field for the seventh McDowell’s Signature Club golf championship that tees off at the Delhi Golf Club course here and the East Point Golf Club at Visakhapatnam on Saturday. One club from Nepal will also take part in the event in which Delhi Golf Club, Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Bangalore’s Eagleton Golf Resort and Poona Club are expected to be among the favourites. However, defending champion Bombay Presidency will be missed since its course is under renovation. Three-tier formatThe competition, spread over three months, will be played on a three-tier format. In the first stage, each club will select its team by holding a tournament for its members in three handicap categories like 0-8 (on Gross Stableford), 9-16 and 17-24 (played on 3/4th Nett Stableford). The second stage will be the regional finals where clubs from each of the four regions will battle it out for the tag of the ‘Regional Champions’. These regional finals will be held at Eagle Environmental Club and Training Area (Hyderabad) on October 6; Classic Golf Resort, Gurgaon on October 20; Poona Golf Club, Pune, on November 10 and Beldih & Golmuri Golf Courses, Jamshedpur, on November 17.
