HYDERABAD: The city has the highest per capita consumption of chicken in India, according to Harsha Agadi, CEO of US-based Texas Chicken. This is the reason behind the company opting to locate its first India-based outlet here.

He was addressing a media conference on Wednesday to announce the launch of its international brand Texas Chicken restaurant at Himayatnagar. The outlet would be operated by SH Group, its franchisee for the State.

The Managing Director of SH Group C. Suresh Rayudu said the original Fried Chicken recipe would be spicy to cater to the Indian palate. Apart from French fries and ‘Jalapeno Bombers’ that are the veggie items in U.S., this restaurant would also offer ‘Indianised’ Roti and Paneer dishes for its non-meat eating consumers. Taking into consideration the health aspect perspective that is a major point of debate in the West, Mr Rayudu stated that the oil used in preparation of items in their restaurant would be free from trans fat, mandatory in all restaurants and fast food outlets in the U.S. Twelve more ‘Texas Chicken’ restaurants would be opened in the city in next five years while also tapping markets in towns like Bhimavaram and Tanuku in other parts of the State.
