Booking of illegal construction to be computerised MCD to introduce on-line sanction of building plans NEW DELHI: After the High Court announced deactivation for six months of the Monitoring Committee and Court Commissioners constituted by it to check unauthorised construction, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has announced steps to develop a transparent and effective system to keep a check on unauthorised construction in the Capital. The announcement was made by Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra on Wednesday. “In order to bring transparency and improve efficiency, the entire system of booking of unauthorised construction would be computerised and made on-line. There would be separation of detection and demolition function and the Building Department would be strengthened. “The required machinery would also be purchased and control rooms would be strengthened,” said the Mayor. She said the civic body would introduce on-line sanction of building plans and issue of completion certificates. In addition, MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta also announced constituting a committee comprising Additional Commissioner (Engineering), Chief Vigilance Office, Chief Town Planner and Chief Law Officer to supervise the action taken on the report submitted by the Monitoring Committee to the civic body as per the High Court directions. As per the civic body’s new measures, the Superintending Engineers would be given powers to take disciplinary action against erring officials up to the level of Executive Engineers who fail to stop unauthorised constructions. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
