Two held on charges of extortion

NEW DELHI: Two men including a civil engineer who were allegedly trying to extort Rs.50 lakh from a South Delhi businessman have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police. The Special Cell received a complaint from the businessman alleging that he had been receiving threat calls from a person who claimed that he was a criminal from Bihar. On May 27, the caller threatened him of dire consequences if he did not pay up Rs.50 lakh. He identified himself as Raju Engineer of Jahanabad. He again called on June 9 and threatened to harm his relatives at Allahabad and raised the amount to Rs.1 crore.

A team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police L.N. Rao zeroed in on Satendra Sharma, a resident of Sangam Vihar, and arrested him. At his instance, the police arrested Rajesh Sharma alias Raju Engineer, a civil engineer.
