Kolkata: “Singur has, no doubt, sent out some wrong message to investors but I am sincerely trying to solve the problem once and for all,” Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said here on Wednesday. He was addressing the inaugural function of DQ Entertainment International, an animation company at Sector V, the information and technology hub of the city. “We are facing some problems in Singur but it is an exception. I want to assure investors that West Bengal is not just Singur,” Mr. Bhattacharjee said. He said some people were trying to create trouble at Singur and that had given rise to some apprehensions regarding the State’s attitude towards industrialisation. Mr. Bhattacharjee, however, asserted, “The people of West Bengal, especially the educated youth, want industrialisation and it will not get stopped at any cost.” “I meet representatives of various companies, including foreign ones, everyday and I assure them that there has been no slackening in the process of industrialisation and whatever problems exist at Singur will be solved soon,” he said. Mr. Bhattacharjee also said that the role of agriculture on the path of economic progress could not be denied. “But industry is also necessary. Agriculture alone cannot be the way.” He pointed to the various industrial projects under way in the State which has been approved by the Central government. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
