Jayawardane shines

VIJAYAWADA: Jayawardane’s 69 for Kadapa against Chittoor was the highlight of the rain-marred ACA South Zone under-14 cricket tournament at Anantapur, according to information received here on Wednesday.

The scores: Anantapur 79 in 40.1 overs (Rehamatullah four for 10) drew with Kurnool 89 for six in 38 overs (Kesava Reddy 43, Chandrasekhar three for 27).

Chittoor 175 in 84.3 overs (Mazar five for 41, Saleem Baig three for 54) drew with Kadapa 177 for five in 48 overs (Jayawardane 69, Vamsi Krishna 43, Gowtham Reddy 38).

Match drawn

The selection match between ACA President’s and ACA Secretary’s XI for ACA Central Zone under-14 team ended in a draw here on Wednesday.

The scores: ACA President’s XI 42 for six in 73.4 overs drew with ACA Secretary’s XI 58 for two in 27overs.

ACA CZ u-14 team

The following players will represent Central Zone in the ACA inter-zonal under-14 tournament for the D. Venkateswara Rao Memorial Trophy to be held at Anantapur from September 20 to October 4, according to ACA CZ secretary M.S.P.V. Ramana Murthy.

Carrom tournament

The Krishna District Carrom Association will organise a district-ranking tournament, for men and women, at the association hall at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium on September 12 and 13, according to secretary C. Srinivas.

Chess tournament

The Alluri Seetharama Raju memorial coastal districts chess championship for all age groups will be held at Bhimavaram on September 14. All participants will be given a standard chess set by the organisers, said Krishna District Chess Association secretary Srihari.

GRP is champion

Government Railway Police team emerged overall champion in athletics in the district police sports meet that concluded here on Tuesday. Superintendent of police (Railways) M. Venkateswara Rao gave away the prizes.
