Chain-snatching incidents

CHENNAI: Two motorcycle-borne persons snatched a gold chain from a woman in Palavakkam here on Thursday.

Police said A. Satya (21) of Taramani was walking along the road when the accused intercepted her on the pretext of clarifying an address and snatched her 15-sovereign gold chains. However, Satya offered resistance and in the melee, the suspects, who were wearing helmets, managed to flee with six sovereigns of gold.

A woman was relieved of her gold chain weighing about 10 sovereigns by two men on a motorcycle on Velachery Main Road in Medavakkam on Wednesday evening. Police said Jhansi of Pushpa Nagar was on her way to a school near her house to bring home her son. Two men wearing helmets came close to Jhansi and stopped. Jhansi tried to move to a corner of the road, but one of them snatched the chain and fled .
