Indian Bank downs ONGC (Dehradun)

Chennai: Indian Bank defeated ONGC (Dehradun) in the opening match of the Aircel-all-India volleyball tournament at the Municipality ground, Karaikal, on Wednesday.

In the women’s section, South Central Railway (Secundrabad) prevailed over SDAT (Chennai).

The results: Men: Indian Bank bt ONGC (Dehradun) 25-18, 25-18, 27-25; Southern Railway bt SDAT (Chennai) 25-19, 25-21, 25-15.

Women: South Central bt SDAT, Chennai 25-16, 25-12, 25-19; Dr. Sivanthi Club bt JBAS 25-17, 25-11, 25-15.

Bridge tournament

The annual bridge championship, hosted by CDBA for the year 2008, will be held at the TNSC (T. Nagar) from 9 a.m. on September 13.

The team four duplicate event will be held on Saturday and Board-a-Match and Pairs event would be held on September 14.

National road racing

Round three of the UCAL-Rolon National road racing championship for two-wheelers will get underway this weekend at the Irungattukottai race track.

The qualifying sessions starts on Saturday, followed by the main races on Sunday. The TVS scheme bike races for newcomers will also be held this weekend.

After two rounds in the expert category, Harry Sylvester leads Group ‘D’ four-stroke 165cc class with 61 points, while K. Rajini heads the table in the Group ‘B’ four-stroke 130-165cc class with 60 points.

In Group ‘B’ four-stroke 260cc class, K. Vinodh leads with 53 points.

Sports festival

IIT Madras, as part of its Golden Jubilee celebration, will host three sports events — the Sanmar cricket tournament, the inter-IIT sports meet and the GF & KR basketball tournament.

The sports fest will be inaugurated on September 21 with the Golden Jubilee Run, a 10km cross-country race, conducted in partnership with the Indian Youth Climate Network, with the theme of combating climate change.

Participation is on first-come-first-serve basis.

Swimming selections

The State-level Schools swimming selection trials will be held on September 13 from 7.30 a.m. at the SDAT-Velachery Complex.
