Police arrest DMK functionary

Pollachi: The police have arrested Yuvaraj (DMK), the panchayat president of S. Nallur in Pollachi South Panchayat Union, and four others on charges of drunken brawl in a public place and assaulting a police sub-inspector.

It is learnt that on Thursday evening Yuvaraj and his friends came to Pollachi. They tried to consume liquor inside their car near the taxi stand in the bus stand area.

The taxi drivers objected to this.

When sub-inspector Bala Murali tried to intervene, the group, which was reportedly in an inebriated condition, allegedly assaulted him.

The police have registered a case against Yuvaraj and his friends under five sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The SI was admitted to the hospital while the accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody on Friday.
