Helping hand: Durai Murugan, PWD Minister, handing over a cheque to a beneficiary in Tirupattur on Friday. — NATRAMPALLI: Funds have been sanctioned for constructing 167 classrooms covering eight schools in the Tirupattur taluk limit under the NABARD Phase 9 scheme at the total cost of Rs.7.87 crore, Public Works Department and Law Minister Durai Murugan said here on Friday. Inaugurating buildings constructed through the MP and MLA funds in Natrampalli and Tirupattur, he said the NABARD had sanctioned funds for constructing 24 classrooms in Ambalur Girls Higher Secondary School, 29 in Gajalnaickenpettai Girls Higher Secondary School, 10 in Ramanaickenpettai Girls High School, 24 in Theemampettai Girls High School, 16 in Bhommikuppam Girls High School, 14 in Keethandapatti Girls High School, 37 in Pachur Girls Higher Secondary School and 13 in Periyangkuppam Girls High School. Work on desilting two tanks had been completed at the cost of Rs.20 lakh in Natrampalli constituency, Mr. Durai Murugan said. Similarly, construction of four out of five check-dams had been completed. The total amount spent on the check-dams was Rs.61.70 lakh. Renovation of the Kottar check-dam at the cost of Rs.50 lakh was under way. PWD officials have been instructed to expedite the work. In Tirupattur, many of the development schemes were progressing fast. A sum of Rs.20 lakh had been spent on desilting two tanks. Another Rs.22 lakh had been spent to conserve rainwater. Works completed through funds from the NABARD was to the tune of Rs. 49 lakh. Referring to Natrampalli constituency, Mr. Durai Murugan said a new operation theatre had been opened at Natrampalli Primary Health Centre at the cost of Rs.55 lakh. A 30-bed surgery ward at Pudupettai Primary Health Centre had been constructed at the cost of Rs.55 lakh. He exuded confidence that the Siddha ward would offer good treatment to the patients. Tirupattur MP Venugopal had so far sanctioned Rs.16.9 lakh for developing the constituency, Mr. Durai Murugan said. Natrampalli MLA N.K.R. Suriya Kumar had so far spent Rs.1.62 crore. On development works completed in Tirupattur, Mr.Durai Murugan said Rs.10 lakh had also been spent on a children ward at Tirupattur Government Hospital. A surface bridge across the Palar on Tirupattur-Alangayam Road to reach Ullivattam had been constructed at the cost of Rs.7 lakh and a similar bridge across the Palar to reach Karambur had been constructed at the cost of Rs.10 lakh. Later, he distributed welfare assistance under various schemes to beneficiaries.
