Stalin inaugurates Kamaraj memorial

VIRUDHUNAGAR: A memorial for Kamaraj to commemorate two of the resolutions passed by him as the Chairman of Virudhunagar municipality to promote literacy has been opened here on Friday.

The Minister for Local Administration, M.K. Stalin, inaugurated the ‘Kamaraj Kalvi Karuvarai’, on the municipal office premises.

Alongside the picture of the leader, copy of both the resolutions has been displayed at memorial.

The first resolution passed on November 11, 1941 was in connection with appointment of one attender each for three reading rooms. It said that the reading rooms were helping to promote literacy among the poor of the area and hence, they should be relocated at Sivankoil Street School, Central School and Park to help the people.

Another resolution dated March 16, 1942, was seeking the council sanction for buying a copy of a book, “Stylish Veedugal” for the office library.

Mr. Stalin recalled the yeoman services of Kamaraj in taking education to the masses. The Ministers, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Thangam Thennarasu and A. Tamilarasi, were present. The Virudhunagar Municipal Chairperson, Karthiga Karikolraj, urged the Minister to fully operate the new bus stand at Virudhunagar.
