HYDERABAD: Sri Lanka ‘A,’ with some of the big names of the country’s national team in its line-up, will be visiting Visakhapatnam to take part in friendly matches to be organised by the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) from October 10, V. Chamundeswaranath, Secretary, ACA, said. He said the round-robin schedule would feature host Andhra, Karnataka, Hyderabad and the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team to be sent by Sri Lanka Cricket. “Essentially, we are aiming to ensure good match practice for all the players from the above states ahead of a hectic season,” he said. The ACA is also planning to give away some prize money if everything goes as per the plans on the sponsorship front. Chamundeswaranath also said that the Andhra under-19 team would be playing practice matches in Hyderabad immediately after the conclusion of the triangular ‘A’ series featuring India, Australia and New Zealand. Double for SindhuP.V. Sindhu, daughter of former volleyball international P.V. Ramana, bagged a double by winning the girls singles and doubles titles, while C. Rohit Yadav won the boys title in the State sub-junior (under-16) badminton championship at the GHMC Indoor Stadium (Ameerpet), here on Saturday. Sindhu defeated J. Meghana of Ranga Reddy 21-9, 21-10 in the singles final and later combined with Manisha to win the doubles title by beating Meghana and V. Pramada 21-13, 21-14. In the boys’ singles final, Rohit put it across N.S. Vijetha 21-11, 21-12. In the boys’ doubles final, K. Sri Teja and Srikanth beat A. Naresh and D. Mahendra 19-21, 21-15, 23-21. T.G. Venkatesh, Executive President, APBA, handed over a cheque for Rs. 1.5 lakh, pooled in by all the district units of APBA, to Harvir Singh, father of Saina Nehawal, who reached the badminton singles quarterfinals at the Beijing Olympics.
