There is no direct train from Salem either to Madurai or Tiruchirappalli barring the train No. 6339, which is scheduled to arrive at 15.55 hrs. The other two trains - No. 6734 and 6732 to Madurai arrive at odd hours. The only train available to Tiruchirappalli, which is Mailaduturai Express (6232) also arrives at odd hours in the night and the passengers have to forgo sleep as the train reaches Tiruchi at 4 am. The only alternative is bus which is not at all suitable to the elderly, invalid and the physically challenged. Now that the Salem – Vridhachalam line has come into use, direct trains from Salem to Madurai as well as to Tiruchirappalli may be introduced during the day time. My request to railway authorities is to introduce passenger / express trains on daily basis to Madurai and Tiruchi either through Vridhachalam or Erode S. Lakshmi Narasimhan. Salem Service failureI got a BSNL Broadband connection (Phone Number 2403759) two months ago. I went for Rs. 250 per month tariff but my first month bill was around Rs.7,900. As it was a huge amount I could not continue using the connection. While connecting, BSNL (Salem) did not inform us about their website where we can check our bill (current status). As the advance amount is only Rs.1,000 they should have informed me when my usage crossed Rs.1,000. When I enquired about the bill I was told by a BSNL employee that many people had complained about the same problem and nothing could be done and I was told to ‘just pay the bill.’ BSNL authorities should kindly check where the problem lies and prevent their customers from such problems. Though I paid the amount before the due date, I am still pained about the excess money I had to shell out. All these had happened only because of BSNL’s poor service to customers. B. Deivanayaki. Salem Power cut scheduleTamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) announced power disruption schedule recently. Power cut at night helps burglars to operate freely. Many thefts have been reported in Erode. TNEB should consider lifting power cuts at night. C. Bhaskaran, Erode Identity of passengersTo avoid bulk bookings, it is necessary to produce the identity of the actual passenger. This photo identity should be produced at the time of booking and also during the travel. It is seen that most of the citizens have their Identity Cards like Voter ID, Driving license, Passport, PAN cards, Credit cards, ID cards of School/College, ID cards issued by Govt and reputed private organizations. These cover almost 90% of the citizens and there should not be any difficulty to carry the ID cards for passengers, as they need for air travel. This will result in identifying unauthorized travellers and also extremist/terrorist/unsocial elements. Also it will be helpful in identifying victims during accidents. Also, tatkal tickets should be booked one day in advance and not five days in advance as is the case now. C.M.
