MADURAI: Police have stepped up security in vantage locations in and around the city following the serial blasts in New Delhi on Saturday. Apart from routine checks at worship places including Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, plainclothesmen have been deployed on surveillance duty at major markets, bus stands and railway station. As a precautionary measure, certain public places such as cinema houses and shopping malls are also being monitored, an officer said. In the rural district, all check posts have been provided with additional strength to conduct searches on vehicles movement, a senior officer said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
