This Day That Age
General K.S. Thimmayya, Chief of the Army Staff, has sent a message of greetings to the Madras Regiment on the occasion of its bi-centenary celebrations on September 15, at Wellington, Nilgiris. He stated: “The Madras Regiment has a unique distinction of two centuries of service, and it can now look back with legitimate pride on that service. During this long period the Regiment has fought on many a battlefield and its array of battle honours and list of decorations testify to its high reputation for gallantry, devotion to duty and efficiency. I recollect with gratification the gallant service the units of this Regiment have rendered in the difficult situation that developed in the wake of freedom in the Punjab and elsewhere. Personally I have watched the Madrasis in some of the bitterest actions that were fought in Kashmir in freezing winter and snow in Uri and Tithwal. I send you my best wishes for your continued success and am confident that your glorious past will be equalled by your glorious future.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
