KOLKATA: Mohinder Amarnath took over the Bengal Ranji squad as its consultant on Monday and expressed his hope that the National selectors would consider Sourav Ganguly for the upcoming home series against Australia. The former Test player told reporters after putting State team probables in their strides that the five wise men should go in for tried and tested players with equal blend of youth against Australia in the upcoming home series. The absence of Ganguly from the Rest of India squad for the Zal B. Irani Trophy against Delhi prompted speculation that the Bengal left-hander would not be considered for the Test series. Not in the same class“Just because he (Ganguly) failed in one series does not mean he should not be considered for another series,” he observed. Amarnath felt the Indian batsmen failed to negotiate successfully the Sri Lankan spinners. He said the Aussie spinners are not in the same class as Lankan spinners. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
