Police step up enforcement drive

Coimbatore: During aspecial drive conducted under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), K. Thondiraj, the police conducted checking against overloading in buses and had registered cases against 74 conductors for permitting overloading of passengers and for allowing them to travel on foot board and collected a fine of Rs. 7,400. The police also advised the public to refrain from foot board travel.

As part of the drive, the traffic police had registered cases against seven motorists for using cellular phone while driving/riding, two persons for plying vehicles without valid insurance cover, nine cases for over speeding, 12 persons for plying a vehicle without driving licence. 32 cases for overloading cargo. In total, 548 cases were registered and a sum of Rs 52,400 was realised as fine.
