Mariappan and a few others were looking after the financial affairs of a temple in the village NAGAPATTINAM: Mariappan (55), former president of Thazhayamazhai panchayat in Tirukkuvalai taluk in Nagapattinam district and local leader of the Communist Party of India, was murdered by a group of persons in the village on Monday night. Police sources said that Mariappan and a few others of Thazhayamazhai village were looking after the financial affairs of the Ayyanar temple in the village. Mariappan had sought detailed accounts from the others, which led to a quarrel between them. Mariappan was hacked in the village and died on way to government hospital here. Road rokoA large number of CPI workers on Tuesday staged road roko near the government hospital, demanding that the police arrest the killers.
