KHAMMAM: Anti-ragging committees will be formed soon in educational institutions, particularly engineering colleges and medical colleges, according to Superintendent of Police Mahesh M. Bhagwat on Tuesday. Addressing a news conference, he said attention would be focused on all professional colleges considered to be the hub of the ragging activity. Now that admissions into the first year of the engineering and medical colleges were coming to a close, officials from the Police Department would visit the institutions as part of their campaign aimed at creating awareness on the laws against ragging and hold meetings with the students, teachers and representatives from the managements on the issue. The anti-ragging panels would be constituted involving the heads of the institutions, parents and the local police. The managementsof professional colleges cannot go easy with laws on ragging. They were expected to take due interest in prevention of the practice and think of possible action that could be taken against the senior students indulging in ragging the freshers by invoking the provisions of the AP Prohibition of Ragging Act.
