Police recruitment: qualification norm likely to be eased

HYDERABAD: Non-availability of candidates with the prescribed minimum qualification has turned out to be a major hitch to the Government in filling the posts of police constables that fell vacant after repatriation of non-locals in Zones V and VI under the G.O. 610.

The Government, is therefore contemplating relaxing the minimum qualification norm in case of poor response to the recently-issued second recruitment notification.

Announcing this to reporters after Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy reviewed the progress of repatriation at meeting here on Wednesday, Home Minister K. Jana Reddy said locals would be recruited in all the departments to the extent of non-locals identified and repatriated to their native zones. “This decision has been taken since repatriation process is taking a lot of time with some of the employees approaching courts and Administrative Tribunal”.

A note released later by the Chief Minister’s Office said the management of the APSRTC had issued internal instructions to heads of different wings to implement Presidential Order in all recruitments.

The meeting noted that 19,000 employees had been identified as non-locals in the State so far, and nearly a half of them in Police and Education Departments, and out of them 9,514 have already been repatriated.

Mr. Jana Reddy said full details of the non-locals recruited against constable vacancies in different zones through the years were not available as records were not traceable. These appointments were made by district Superintendents of Police before the State Police Recruitment Board was formed.

In view of this, the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission had been asked to furnish the merits lists of all recruitments till date. The meeting was attended by Ministers K. Ranga Rao (Municipal Administration) and D. S. Redya Naik (Tribal Welfare) and Chief Secretary P. Ramakantha Reddy.
