HYDERABAD: Engineering aspirants who expressed dissatisfaction over the allotment done through web counselling can try their luck once again with the 6,000 seats under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC & ST) categories being moved to general pool. In addition to this, there are an additional 2,000 seats for the taking with six new engineering colleges yet to be included in the counselling despite getting permission from AICTE and affiliation from the university concerned. If all these seats are included the number can go up to nearly 10,000. APSCHE Chairman K.C. Reddy said there was a difference of opinion on whether these seats would be offered to candidates above the 54,000 rank or all the candidates. There is an argument that candidates below the 54,000 rank have got two opportunities, once through direct counselling and another through web counselling, so the additional seats should be open only to rankers above 54,000. ViolationsProf. Reddy said a committee headed by Prof. Govindarajulu has already visited 12 of the 18 colleges where admissions in the management category (B category) were made and found some deviations in the admissions. He said the IIIT at Nuzvid under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies would be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on September 27, while the IIIT at Basar would be formally opened in the first week of October. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
