Police get good response after release of sketches

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A day after releasing sketches of three suspects involved in the serial blasts, the Delhi police questioned half-a-dozen young men, including two from the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

The police have received over 200 calls since the sketches were released on Tuesday evening. “We are getting a good response. More and more people should come forward with information about suspicious looking persons or anyone resembling the sketches,” said a police officer.

Acting on one such input, the police reportedly picked up three persons from Janakpuri in West Delhi for questioning. Two more from Uttar Pradesh were also questioned.

Investigations so far had revealed that a large part of the material that the Indian Mujahideen posted in the e-mail owning up the series of five blasts in the Capital on Saturday was lifted from the Internet blog of a writer.

Given the striking similarities between the blasts, the police were investigating the possibility that those behind the explosions in Ahmedabad were involved in Delhi too. “We are presently proceeding in that direction and hope to get some results soon,” said the police officer.
