Sudhakaran clinches honours

HYDERABAD: Sudhakaran of ATNK & K clinched honours in the 20 km race of the Southern Command athletics championship at Artillery Centre here on Wednesday.

Earlier, Brig R. Suresh, VSM, Commandant, Artillery Centre, inaugurated the meet in which 10 teams are taking part.

The results: 20 km race: 1. Sudhakaran (ATNK & K), 2. O.N. Badigar (ATNK & K), 3. Narpati Singh (12 Rapid).

5,000m: 1. Gyan Chandra Bharti (ATNK & K), 2. Anil Thakur (ATNK & K), 3. Ashok Babu (31 Armoured Division).

Andhra Loyola College wins

Andhra Loyola College won the Acharya Nagarjuna University inter-collegiate hockey championship for men winning all the three league matches at Makineni Basavapunnaiah Stadium in Vijayawada on Wednesday.

The results (league): ALC bt SRR & CVR 6-0, Hindu College bt SRR & CVR 3-2, SRR & CVR bt VKR College 1-0, ALC bt Hindu College 5-0, ALC bt VKR College 4-2, Hindu College bt VKR College 2-1.
ACA u-16 team

The following players will represent Andhra Cricket Association u-16 team in the all-India Vijay Merchant Trophy tournament to be played at Goa during November and December.

Inter-school cricket

Krishna District Cricket Association’s inter-district schools tournament for Dr. Gokarajku Gangaraju Trophy will commence on Thursday at Siddhartha Medical College grounds in which 13 schools from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Kurnool, Vizag, East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, Nellore and Prakasam will take part.

The top two teams will play a tournament with other State teams of Hyderabad, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa and Kerala.
Three athletes for Chennai meet

Three physically challenged athletes from Vijayawada — S. Thirumalai Kumar, B. Ganesh and K. Venkata Narasaiah — will represent the Indian contingent in the South Asian Federation Games for physically challenged at Chennai from September 18 to 22.
Hockey trials

The Andhra University men’s hockey team trials will be held at the AU Golden Jubilee ground in Visakhapatnam on September 20 and 21.

Students of AU campus and affiliated players, born on or after July 1, 1983 can report at the venue at 8 a.m. on September 20 with eligibility certificate and a passport size photograph.

The selected will participate in the South Zone inter-University meet at Chidambaram from October 2.
