IR demand: IAS officers’ panel formed

HYDERABAD: A committee of three IAS officers has been constituted to look into the demand of State government employees for a 40 per cent interim relief pending finalisation of the recommendations of the Pay Revision Commission next year.

The committee with I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, Principal Secretary, Finance, as chairman will negotiate with the employees unions over the next three days and convey its decision to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on September 22. Sameer Sarma, Secretary, Finance, and S. Balasubrahmaniam, Secretary, Services, are the other members of the panel which was constituted by the Chief Minister after his talks with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Employees, Teachers and Workers here on Thursday evening. Finance Minister K. Rosaiah was also present.

JAC chairman V. Gopal Reddy and secretary general K. Swamy Goud told reporters they were satisfied with the progress of the two rounds of talks on Wednesday and Thursday. They, however, threatened to implement their call for an agitation from September 25 if the interim relief (IR) awarded by the government was not satisfactory.

They said the Chief Minister asked the officials to adopt a scientific approach to fix the dosage of IR. The JAC insisted on 40 per cent IR keeping in view the 12.5 per cent rate of inflation.

The JAC submitted 50 other demands to the government, including provision of house sites, jobs to children of NGOs who are medically invalidated and payment of pension for the period of apprenticeship by teachers.

Leaders of the coordination committee representing the Secretariat employees also called on the Chief Minister with a similar set of demands after he met the JAC.
